The Presence of Women in Engineering and Technology at Bolivian Universities: Challenges and Perspectives

Abstract

STEM education, particularly in engineering and technology, is crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 5. Historically, women have been underrepresented in these fi elds, a situation that persists in Bolivia despite the increase in female university enrollment. Th is article analyzes the historical evolution of the gender gap in Bolivian universities, identifi es factors contributing to its persistence, and examines initiatives that could foster a cultural shift toward gender equity in universities and society in the medium and long term.
