Abstract

This article seeks to describe how the Bolivian fictions of the Chaco War highlight post-traumatic emotions in both post-war novels and stories as well as contemporary works. It focuses on the decentralization of war narratives and how they show another narrative about the nation. The return of the demobilized from Chaco to their homes is more than a retrospective anecdote of the armed conflict for the authors, it is a founding episode and a transnational experience that fuels an identity search. Emotions go from being collective diseases in early texts to individual pathologies in more recent literature.
