Between Environmental and Social Dimensions: The Challenge for Protected Area Governance in Santa Cruz

This essay reflects on the governance of protected areas in eastern Bolivia, focusing on shared management or co-management between local actors, indigenous peoples, and state entities. Based on the experience in Santa Cruz, it highlights the importance of active civil society participation, cooperation between municipalities, and the inclusion of indigenous knowledge in the protection of natural heritage. It also addresses the importance of information and technical training to strengthen management, resilience to threats, and the creation of spaces for resistance.
