During the third decade of the last century, Bolivia had to face one of the bloodiest wars in its history. A war that will end up completely changing the destiny of the country, in addition to taking with it an entire generation of young people who had many dreams to fulfill. Much was said about the heroism shown by men on the battlefield, thus omitting the important female participation during this conflict. Well, as soon as the war began, a part of the female population of La Paz volunteered to be part of the Military Health and Red Cross, some young ladies also organized Pro-Patria work by creating patriotic societies. One of those patriotic societies was the “Godmothers of War” institution, which was initially born in La Paz, chaired by Mrs. Bethsabe Iturralde. This institution, which had the authorization of the Ministry of War and Colonization, in the months following its creation, expanded throughout the country, with the objective of these ladies providing moral and material support to the godson and his family.
